The Town of Carbonear is seeking a Foreperson, one Carpenter and three Labourers for the fire department garage renovations.
Applicants for these positions MUST be:
• receiving E.I. benefits,
• have received regular E.I. benefits in the last five years or
• paid EI premiums in at least 5 of the last 10 calendar years (conditions may apply).
All Participants will be required to wear steel-nosed safety footwear on site and these must be provided by the participants.
This project is a ten week project funded through the Job Creation Partnership program under Advanced Education, Skills and Labour, Government of Newfoundland and Labrador. These positions are not insurable hours.

This Sunday, September 15th is the annual Terry Fox Walk/Run for Cancer Research. See poster below for all the details.

We would like to take this opportunity to congratulate 94 years young Will Dwyer, originally from Carbonear, who reached his lifetime goal of raising $1 Million dollars for the Terry Fox Foundation and cancer research. For 39 years Will has fundraised each year for the Terry Fox Foundation, and finally reached his goal this month!

At the beginning of the Blue Jays versus Boston game tonight, they will honor for his commitment to raise 1 Million Dollars.

Carbonear Triathlon and Carbonear Try-A-Tri Sunday, July 21st

Carbonear Triathlon
Beautiful Carbonear NL in July is the setting for one of the best Sprint Triathlons you’ll ever race. This point to point event starts with a 500m dip in the cool fresh water of Freshwater Pond followed by a scenic 18k bike ride back through Carbonear, up the hill, back into Freshwater and through town again finishing by the pool in Carbonear. Then a 5k run out and back through the town and 1 lap on the track brings you across the finish line. Cap off the day with a tasty steak and salad dinner at the awards reception.

Carbonear Try-a-Tri consists of a 300m swim, 6K bike, and 3K run. Hey Youth, let’s get involved. Put your athleticism to the test! Must be 12 years of age. For those adults who have always wanted to try!! Here’s your opportunity, Triathlon experience at a shorter distance! Register individually or as a Team (2 or 3 members). Water Shut Off – Harbour Rock Hill to Burnt Head Road (west access)

On Wednesday, June 26, 2019 starting at 9 a.m.

There will be a water shut off from Harbour Rock Hill to Burnt Head Road (west access) to repair a leak in the main water line.

Water service will be reinstated as soon as possible.
Those in the area should expect the water to be off for most of the day.

Downtown Revitalization Project Detour Update- Thursday, June 13, 2019

Here is your update for tomorrow, Thursday, June 13th.

Bannerman Street will be open.

At the beginning of the day, the detour will be located at Pike’s Lane. As they finish up work and move along Water Street they will open up Adelaide Street.

O’Donovan’s Lane will be closed all day tomorrow.

Clients of Medical and Physical Therapy Supplies Ltd., can notify the flagperson who will help them reach the business.

Downtown Revitalization Project Detour Update – Wednesday, June 12, 2019

The Construction crew will be working at the intersection of Bannerman Street and Water Street. Therefore, Wednesday, June 12th, Bannerman Street will be closed to traffic.

The detour will be located at Musgrave Street. A flagperson will be at the detour and local traffic will be allowed thru.

Also the construction crew will begin removing curb and sidewalk starting around the Railway Station and moving forward to Bannerman Street along Water Street. Due to this, in the morning, there will be a detour at Pike’s Lane until the crew have moved past Adelaide Street. As they move along Water Street to Bannerman Street detours will change.

Tuesday, June 11th
For Tuesday, June 11th, there will be a detour at Pike’s Lane as Adelaide Street will be closed during parts of the day. A flagperson will be set up at Pike’s Lane. Access to Princess Sheila Theatre, Town Office, and Busy Hands Arts & Crafts will be available via Water Street. Flagperson will allow local traffic thru at Pike’s Lane detour.

Additionally, there will be a flagperson stationed just past Bannerman Street heading west. Detour at Bannerman Street.

Thank you to everyone who participated in the Annual Carbonear Clean Up Day this Saturday.

There was a fantastic turnout as we cleaned up our community.

We’d also like to thank the Carbonear Volunteer Fire Department, the 589 Air Cadets and the Carbonear Special Events Committee.

It took many hands to help clean up during the Annual Carbonear Clean Up Day but every day we should strive to keep our community clean!

Everyone can take action to help preserve, protect and restore our environment.

Carbonear Annual Clean Up Day is coming up this Saturday, June 8th!

Please keep in mind when cleaning up to not disrupt animals in their natural habitat. Our trails crew started this week. Check out the photos of some of the nests that they have come across while working on the trails.

Every action, no matter how small, can make a big difference in helping our environment!

If you, your family, your community group, or your business can spare some time on Saturday – please stop by the Conception Bay Regional Community Centre on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. to pick up gloves and garbage bags and help us clean up Carbonear!

Downtown Revitalization Project Update: Victoria Day Weekend

As of noon on Friday, May 17th, 2019 Water Street is open.

Construction crews will return to the site on Tuesday, May 21, 2019 at 7 a.m. to continue work.

Expect detours on Tuesday, May 21st, 2019. Access to Water Street via Bannerman Street will be closed as crews work in that intersection.

Tomorrow, Thursday, May 16th, 2019 crews will be continuing work on the section of road from O’Donovan’s Lane to Bannerman Street.

Local traffic to businesses on the west side of construction (from Bannerman Street direction) can do so thru the Bannerman Street barricade. The Flagpersons will be allowing local traffic thru to businesses.

Construction crews are working in a couple of areas this morning.

Crews are digging at the intersection of Bannerman Street and Water Street. Therefore, traffic is detoured up Bannerman Street.

More digging is happening between Adelaide Street and O’Donovan’s Lane. Therefore, for a portion of the day, traffic travelling east on Water Street will be detoured thru Adelaide Street. We will update once this portion of the street is open.

Welcon Construction is continuing work on Crossroads Bridge. Crossroads Bridge is closed to traffic.

Detour Notice for Wednesday, May 1st, 2019

The construction is moving along on Water Street. Crews are finished up removing asphalt from the road to begin underground work on sections of the street.

Digging will begin on Wednesday, May 1st, 2019 in front of the Carbonear Railway Station. The first section will be from the area in front of the Carbonear Railway Station to Adelaide Street.

Therefore, there will be detours on Wednesday.

Traffic will be detoured to Pike’s Lane and be able to access Water Street through side streets ie. O’Donovan’s.

The map illustrates the detour and the portion of the road closure.

Green fencing has also been posted to provide pedestrians with walking access as the work continues.
