Town of Carbonear Metals Collection for July will take place on Friday, July 26, 2024

NOTICE: Planned Water service interruption affecting residents on Grassey Lane on Tuesday, July 23, 2024 beginning at 9 a.m.

The contractor working on Grassey Lane Water, Sewer, Storm Upgrade project will be completing work Tuesday, July 23, 2024.

Residents of Grassey Lane will experience a water service interruption beginning at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, July 23, 2024.  The water service interruption is expected to be in effect all day.

Cross Roads Water, Sewer, Road Upgrades Project:

This project consists of upgrades to the street infrastructure at Cross Roads between the intersection with Pike’s Lane, at the north end, and the intersection with Pond Side Road, to the south.
New water and sanitary sewer mains and stormwater infrastructure will be installed, as well as new asphalt, curb & gutter and sidewalk- one side.

Beach Road Sewer Sizing Project:

This project consists of upgrading the sanitary sewer main at Beach Road between the intersection with Adelaide Street, at the north end, and the lift station located at the intersection with Pike’s Lane, to the south.

Please be advised that a portion of Adelaide Street will be closed to traffic from Friday, June 28, 2024 until further notice.  Adelaide Street is closed to traffic between the Powell’s Supermarket parking lot intersection with Adelaide Street and the St. Clare Avenue intersection with Adelaide Street.

The contractor for the Adelaide Street Phase II Project are not on site today, Friday, June 28, 2024 and will not be returning until Tuesday, July 2, 2024 at 7 a.m.

Due to forecasted rainfall amounts, the contractor has advised us that the scheduled water service interruption to complete the final water main connections will be postponed from Tuesday, June 25^th to Wednesday, June 26, 2024.

There is now a province wide fire ban in place.

The forest fire weather index forecast for the province tomorrow ranges from MODERATE to EXTREME for many areas. Residents are reminded open or outdoor fires are not permitted and burning permits are invalid when there is a fire ban in place.    All outdoor fires are prohibited this includes the use of backyard fire pits, charcoal barbecues, and the use of fireworks.

Operators of off-road vehicles should be vigilant when travelling in grassy and forest areas. Use a proper screening or baffling device to prevent sparks from escaping and carry a fire extinguisher with a minimum of 225 grams of ABC-class dry chemical.

Provincial fire hazard index maps are updated daily and can be viewed at the Department of Fisheries, Forestry and Agriculture website.

NOTICE from Eastern Regional Service Board (ERSB) regarding interim waste collection schedule.

Please find below an interim schedule for garbage and recycling collection in Carbonear and Area— this interim schedule will be in effect April 2 – May 10, 2024.

A revised calendar for the remainder of 2024 will be announced by April 30 as part of a new collection contract for our area.

Until then, please note that the only change will see Thursday collection for west of Bemisters Hill to Pondside Road and sideroads off Pondside Road, move to Tuesdays.
