Announcement of appointment of Chief Administrative Officer

The Town of Carbonear is pleased to announce that Cathy Somers has been appointed as the Town’s new Chief Administrative Officer (CAO).

Cathy brings 28 years of municipal public service experience to the position through her work in the positions of Town Clerk, Director of Financial Operations and most recently as interim CAO with the Town of Carbonear. Prior to working with the Town, Cathy had 13 years of experience working with government agencies.  Throughout her career, Cathy has demonstrated strong skills in financial management, governance and operational knowledge of Town operations, policy implementation and communication.

Mayor Sam Slade welcomed the appointment, stating “Cathy has been with the Town for over two decades and he is confident in her experience to move from the interim CAO position to being appointed the permanent CAO.

Cathy is appreciative of the opportunity and looks forward to continuing to focus on specific priorities such as financial management and work with staff and Council to advance the
priorities identified.  Cathy looks forward to continuing to serve the residents and business community of the Town of Carbonear.
