Youth Involvement in Conserving Local History
PRESS RELEASE: FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Stratford, Ontario, October 18th, 2025 —
The Town of Carbonear received a rating of 5 Blooms and a special mention for Youth Involvement in Conserving Local History during the 2025 Provincial/National/International Symposium and Awards Ceremonies in the City of Stratford, Ontario. The Town of Carbonear participated in the Atlantic Edition – Population Evaluated category.
Over the summer, trained volunteer judges travelled to participating communities to evaluate the overall contributions of municipal council and departments; industry; businesses and the private sector – including volunteer efforts – regarding the following criteria: Community Appearance, Environmental Action, Heritage Conservation, Tree Management, Landscape and Plant & Floral Displays.
Following their evaluation, volunteer judges Angela Vieth and Seville Kwan wrote:
“The youth of Carbonear play an active and vibrant role in their community, a fact that was evident throughout our tour of the town. At the Railway Museum, two young men warmly greeted us and shared the fascinating history of rail in the region. At the Rorke Store Museum, students dressed in historical costumes brought the fishing industry’s story to life. They also appeared in period attire for “Stories on the Street,” introducing us to the lives and experiences of the town’s early settlers.”
Within the actual context of climate changes and environmental concerns, communities involved in the program can be proud of their efforts, which provide real and meaningful environmental solutions and benefit all of society.
