National Indigenous Peoples Day
Today is National Indigenous Peoples Day
National Indigenous Peoples Day is celebrated every June 21, the summer solstice, as a day to recognize and celebrate Indigenous cultures across Canada. Today is a day to remember, recognize and celebrate the unique heritage, diverse cultures and outstanding contributions of First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples.
The day has been celebrated in Canada since 1996, its name being changed from National Aboriginal Day in 2017.
