DESCRIPTION:Proclamation: \nWhereas; Many loved ones in our community have been lost to suicide – many through feelings of depression; hopelessness and helplessness; and \nWhereas; Many people have been affected by the tragedy of suicide and struggle to reconcile themselves to this type of loss for years; and \nWhereas; Suicide is the second leading cause of death amongst our youth; our first nations people have increasingly higher rates on a yearly basis; Indigenous; LGBTQ+ and at-risk youth are at least 4 times more likely to attempt suicide; our seniors and military personnel too often struggle along; and according to the Mental Health Commission of Canada\, nearly 4000 Canadians die yearly by suicide; \nWhereas; Awareness and education; compassion and understanding are fundamental in the prevention of suicide; \nTherefore; I Mayor Frank Butt do hereby declare the month of September 10\, 2025 as World Suicide Prevention Day\, in the Town of Carbonear
